Health and Safety Policy
To ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of our Employees while they are at work and of others who may be affected by their undertakings, and to comply with all the relevant legislation.
To ensure that the principles of Health and Safety are clearly understood throughout the firm of AMD Contract Services Ltd, we will be committed to:
- Ensuring that there are arrangements put into place for the effective planning, development and review of this Health and Safety policy;
- Ensuring that appropriate systems are developed and maintained for the effective communication of health and safety matters throughout the Company;
- Protecting the safety and health of all Employees within the company by preventing work-related injuries, ill health, accidents and disease;
- Complying with relevant health and safety laws and regulations, voluntary programmes, collective agreements on health and safety and other requirements to which the company subscribes;
- Ensuring that Employees and their representatives are consulted and encouraged to participate actively in all elements of the Health and Safety Management System;
- Continually improving the performance of the Health and Safety Management System;
- Provide the necessary information, instruction and training to employees and other, including temporary employees to ensure their competence with respect to Health and Safety;
- Devote the necessary resources in the form of finance, equipment, personnel and time to ensure the health and safety of Employees. Expert help will be sought where the necessary skills are not available within the company;
- Liaise and work with all necessary persons to ensure health and safety, and will also ensure that adequate arrangements are in place with regards to ensuring the health and safety of visitors.
The ultimate responsibility for Health and Safety within the firm of AMD Contract Services Ltd lies with the Directors.
- The Directors will annually review the Health & Safety policy for continued suitability.
- The Directors will review, sign and date the Health & Safety Statement annually and bring it to the attention of all Employees.
We recognise that safety is the responsibility of everyone and is not just a function of management. Employees will have specific duties and responsibilities to comply with the letter and spirit of the policy. Employees have specific responsibilities to take reasonable care of themselves and others that could be affected by their activities and to co-operate to achieve the standards required.
The Company will in consultation with our Employees and their representatives, set out in writing a commitment to ensuring that our Health and Safety policy will be:
- Specific to the company and appropriate to the nature of our activities;
- Concise, clearly written, dated and made effective by the signature of the Partners;
- Communicated and readily accessible to all persons at their place of work;
- Reviewed for continuing suitability;
- Made available to relevant external interested parties, as appropriate.
Quality Assurance Policy
Aim:
The aim of this policy is to ensure that AMD Contract Services Ltd understands the needs of our customers and provides a quality service to all its clients.
Objective:
To have policies and procedures in place which will ensure that the quality of the work provided by AMD Contract Services Ltd is of the highest standard with regards to: Health and Safety; Service and Maintenance of all plant and machinery; To develop the potential of all employees to ensure all staff are capable of undertaking work required in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the Companies Health and Safety and Environmental Policies.
Health & Safety:
- RBS Mentor Services means that AMD Contract Services Ltd has advice and assistance with all Health and Safety issues.
- Being a member of Construction line means that AMD Contract Services Ltd has to review its Health and Safety Policy every 12 months.
- AMD Contract Services Ltd provides Method Statements and Risk Assessments which might be required for each job.
Service and Maintenance of all Plant Machinery:
- Procedures are in place to ensure that all safety tests (LOLER's) are performed on regular basis.
- Service and Maintenance Records for each machine mean that the machines are regularly serviced.
- Each Operator is responsible for doing daily inspections on their machines and is required to fill in a weekly Vehicle Defect Report. This allows the mechanical engineers to keep up with the servicing and maintenance of all the machines.
- AMD have acquired a heavy vehicle break testing system (Simret 4000), which enables the engineers to constantly test and check the braking systems of the machines
Training and Development of all employees:
- AMD Contract Services Ltd is signed up to the CITB Construction Skills training plan.
- AMD Contract Services Ltd has received the CSCS accredited Platinum status which confirms that 90% of our Operators are registered under the Construction Skills Certification Scheme.
Environmental Policy:
- The Director Mr Fraser Dykes is responsible for ensuring that AMD Contract Services Ltd complies with required environmental standards.
- Our registration with Constructional also results in the environmental policy and procedures being reviewed on an annual basis.

Implementation
The Directors have specific responsibilities for the effective implementation of this policy and we expect all our employees to abide by the policy and help create the equality environment which is its objective. In order to implement this policy we shall:
- Communicate the policy to employees, job applicants and relevant others (such as contract or agency workers).
- Incorporate specific and appropriate duties in respect of implementing the equal opportunities policy into job descriptions and work objectives of all staff.
- Ensure that those who are involved in assessing candidates for recruitment or promotion will be trained in non-discriminatory selection techniques
- Incorporate equal opportunities notices into general communications practices (eg. Staff newsletters, intranet)
- Obtain commitments from other persons or organisations such as subcontractors or agencies so that they too will comply with the policy in their dealings with our organisation and our workforce.
- Ensure that adequate resources are made available to fulfil the objectives of the policy.
Monitoring and Review
The effectiveness of our equal opportunities policy will be reviewed annually
Complaints:
Employees who believe that they have suffered any form of discrimination, harassment or victimisation are entitled to raise the matter through the agreed grievance procedures. A copy of these procedures is available from the administration office. All complaints of discrimination will be dealt with seriously, promptly and confidentially.
Every effort will be made to ensure that employees who make complaints will not be victimised. Any complaint of victimisation will be dealt with seriously, promptly and confidentially. Victimisation will result in disciplinary action and may warrant dismissal.
In addition to our internal procedures, employees have the right to pursue complaints of discrimination to an industrial tribunal or the Fair Employment Tribunal under the following anti-discrimination legislation:

- Disability discrimination Act 1995, as amended
- Race Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, as amended

However employees wishing to make a complaint to a tribunal will normally be required to raise their complaint under our internal grievance procedures first.
Environmental Policy
- AMD recognises the importance of complying with all laws, regulations and guidelines implemented with regards to protecting the environment.
- Planning and decision-making processes will ensure that environmental policies and performance standards are adhered to.
- The Company will continue to endeavor to apply principals and practices to improve the impact on the environment.
- AMD commits to being open and responsive to the environmental concerns of our employees, customers, government agencies and the public.
- We will provide clear and candid information about the environmental impact of our services and operations.
- The company will endeavor to minimise waste generation, promote energy efficiency, try to minimise the use of hazardous materials, and promote recycling and re-use.
- The Company will pursue appropriate solutions to any contamination or generation of any chemical and solid waste, which might result from working on a site.
- Employees are educated and encouraged to be environmentally aware and responsible when working on site.
- The Company endeavors to communicate this policy throughout the business and is committed to reviewing and modifying it from time to time or as required.
In 2002 the Company demonstrated its commitment to improving the environment by acquiring a Mercurio Jaw Breaker, (This has recently been upgraded to a newer Sandvik QJ240). This allows AMD to recycle inert waste on site, thus providing the client with a more cost-effective and environmentally friendly way of removing waste materials. It also reduces the need for dumping. A screening service is also available
